| ARTISTS USE AMERICAN CURRENCY AS MEDIUM FOR CAPITALIST STATEMENT July 4, 2009: Conceptual artists Rushton Phillips, have made public an ongoing series commenting upon the U.S. government's US$50 billion bailout package for General Motors Corp. (GM). Entitled 'The Conceptual Representation of Extortion in the Mind of Someone American', the project juxtaposes American currency with the GM brand and a familiar metaphor for capitalist failure. The prevailing outcome is a satirical reminder to taxpayers of their corporate victimization. The series aims to stimulate the taxpaying hippocampus, by re-introducing an indefinite quantity of extortion conscious denominations into circulation, throughout the government's 'investment'. |
